Nicolas Michaux is a Belgian songwriter, composer, and producer. He divides his time between Brussels, where he is a member of the Capitane Collective production group, and the island of Samsø in Denmark, where he lives with his two daughters.
Michaux writes and sings in both English and French, consciously standing at the crossroads of different musical traditions. However, his style remains deeply personal and independent. His recordings, crafted at home in a realistic, almost documentary-like approach, reflect a life spent listening to the world. "Music is something that happens, not something you do," he says about his creative process.
Michaux’s production style paints vivid soundscapes, rooted in a profound attention to instruments and textures. Like a landscape artist, he reflects on the living world through his work, with the musical spectrum as his canvas.
In 2016, he released his highly acclaimed debut album, À La Vie À La Mort, under the Parisian label Tôt ou Tard. This album continues to enchant music lovers worldwide. In 2020, he achieved even greater success with Amour Colère, released on Capitane Records and supported by major outlets such as France Inter, La Première, Radio Nova, La Blogothèque, BBC6 Music, and Télérama. The following year, in 2021, he released the compilation Les Chutes along with the single Amusement Park, which has been streamed more than 3.8 million times on digital platforms.
On May 24, 2023, Michaux unveiled Chaleur Humaine, a single accompanied by a video he directed himself in Ibiza. After receiving extensive airplay on France Inter and La Première over the summer, the song was named a favorite by Francophone media.
In addition to his solo career, Nicolas Michaux is also a producer and has collaborated with artists such as Irma Thomas, Turner Cody, Ish Marquez, Lisa-Li Lund, Regina Spektor, Cyril Neville, Binki Shapiro, and Ben Chace, for production or mixing work.
On October 18, Nicolas Michaux will release a new album entitled Vitalisme. Accompanied by the Soldiers of Love, he will perform on October 16 at Botanique in Brussels and on October 18 at the Zèbre de Belleville in Paris.
