MEZERG

Mezerg invites his fans to join him for a new world tour that will kick off in New York and end at the Zénith in Paris on April 26.

For those who are not yet familiar with Mezerg, his real name is Marc Mezergue, originally from Bordeaux. He started the project in 2017. Before that, he began playing the piano at the age of 16, self-taught, before studying at the Bordeaux Jazz Conservatory, though without much desire to continue down that path. However, this gave him a solid musical foundation. Fortunately, the piano was determined to take over his life.

In 2016, when he moved to Paris with the idea of playing piano-bar gigs, he discovered electronic music by frequently visiting the capital’s dance floors. A craving for rhythm stirred in his solo approach. Instinctively, he strapped a bass drum to his left foot, a hi-hat to his right foot, and took control of a more powerful and customized piano suited to his special needs. "I had found the perfect formula to play alone."

He could then be seen performing with his setup in the streets, on a tramway, or hitchhiking to Hungary to play at the famous Sziget Festival. The first compositions he released online helped him build a small reputation, leading to a growing fan community and concert requests. He then faced a choice: continue in piano-bar settings or focus on the stage.

Since 2017, he has chosen the stage, and only Covid prevented him from touring. He has traveled across France, North America, Mexico, and Europe multiple times, culminating in a sold-out Olympia in Paris in March 2023.

In the meantime, he explored synthesizers, discovered the theremin, and continued working on piano textures and tones.

Instinctively, Mezerg found his place in a golden triangle of keyboard maestros: between Ray Manzarek of The Doors, who impressed him with his technique, Claude Debussy for his classical influence, and Chilly Gonzales for his ability to democratize the instrument with his entertainer's strength. All of this fits into the approach of a generation that, from Jacques to Too Many Zooz, does not hesitate to twist the rules and codes of electronic music.

The pandemic-induced break gave him the opportunity to release numerous online sessions. He also took the chance to compile his online releases into an album: Chez Mezerg, released in 2021 as a kind of compilation of his early years, featuring must-listen tracks like Blu-Tack, Rave, Watermelon, Welcome Theremin, and his cover of Riders on the Storm by The Doors.

This was followed by the 2023 EP Extended Play, which closes a cycle dominated by electronic sounds and marks a return to piano-focused music. Six tracks ranging from upbeat rhythms to more cinematic atmospheres, symbolizing a retro-futuristic blend of jazz, synthesizers, and solo piano. He even handed over the rhythm section to two drummers during the recordings.

A more acoustic work that does not detract from the groovy experience shared live.

More to come in 2025!
