God is Among Us.
Not that Nicolas Dieu has been absent in recent years. Until now, we knew him under the cap and behind the microphone as part of Mister Cover. A band he started in 2002 with some "super musician" friends, which he let grow at its own pace—eventually filling Ancienne Belgique and Forest National multiple times—and still has big moments ahead.
Then, on a beautiful eighth day, as one God can sometimes hide another, Nicolas returned with a brand-new project simply named Oh Mon Dieu. A new musical identity, radically different from Mister Cover, deeply introspective, following an eponymous EP, now leading to his first album titled Les Meilleures Versions De Nous-Mêmes (The Best Versions of Ourselves).
A better version of Nicolas Dieu? Or at least, an alter ego that leaves behind his "rugby player/entertainer" image to reveal a darker, more intimate side we didn’t know. A demanding self, and an artist especially gifted at telling his story with honest words that instantly resonate within us.
We discover ten songs, some of which the 43-year-old Hainuyer had "carried" within him for years—dreaming of sharing them one day but never quite daring to believe it. The lyrics are his own because, for this deeply personal project, he couldn’t imagine using someone else’s words. As for the melodies, it’s a mix: tunes that have lingered in his mind and collaborations that naturally fit in.
These entirely original songs radiate a unique energy. As if, in the studio, he met himself—as if he unlocked the full potential of these tracks. An intimate process he praises for its benefits, claiming it’s worth "10 years of therapy." From Je n’aime que toi, evoking love and the joy of surrendering to it, to Sainte Colère, about righteous indignation and legitimacy, Nicolas Dieu knows well: "We only reap what we love about ourselves."
His universe and how he reveals it show rare coherence and refreshing integrity, captivating us again and again. This album is anything but monochrome and cannot leave anyone indifferent.
In spring 2025, Nicolas Dieu will unveil his second album, delving into profound reflection—a vibrant and even more personal record than the first.
